Clinical information

Clinical utility

Hematopoietic progenitor cell (HPC) infusion for hematopoietic progenitor cell transplantation (HPCT) is the last critical step to ensure the safety and efficacy of the process.

In general, the staff in charge of the patient perform the infusion. However, in some cases it may be performed by the staff responsible for thawing.

Method

The infusion procedure is similar to that performed for most blood components.

A NON leukoreduction (> 170-200 µ) or irradiated filter is used. It can only be administered concomitantly with saline solution.

The infusion should be started slowly and sufficiently monitored to detect adverse reactions. The infusion rate can then be increased until it reaches a rate that the patient can tolerate.

At the end of the infusion, the bag should be washed with physiological saline solution to ensure the administration of its entire contents.

Reference values

The infusion time for apheresis HPC is between 10 and 30 minutes.

The infusion time for ATMP is less than 10 minutes.

The infusion time for red cell or plasma reduced HPC is between 5 and 30 minutes.
