Facilities, equipment, and professionals
The facilities used for cell therapies and advanced therapies take up around 200 square metres of space.
They are located on floors -1 and 5 of the Dr. Frederic Duran i Jordà Building in Barcelona, and have eight rooms with varying degrees of classification (B, C and D):
- Floor - 1 (81 square metres) with 3 B rooms and 1 D room assigned to the production of ATMP, equipped with 4 production units in line with GMP with closed systems and equipped with laminar flow cabinets, incubators, centrifuges, sterile connectors, microscopes, Clinimacs®, Prodigy® and bioreactors.
- Floor 5 (115 square metres) for the production of ATMP in immunotherapy, with 3 B rooms, 1 C room, and 3 D rooms used for production processes in line with GMP with open systems and closed systems for AMTP, viral and plasmid vectors, and equipped with laminar flow cabinets, centrifuges, sterile connectors, and Clinimacs®.
We also have facilities that are used for cryopreservation activities and ATMP quality control
- Cryopreservation (floor -1) with 2 liquid nitrogen tanks and two freezers reaching -80ºC specifically for ATMP, and 2 high-efficiency (vapour phase) tanks for ATMP.
- Quality Control (floor 5) centralised in a cell laboratory to perform quality controls and a restricted area for cell cultures, equipped with automatic cell counters, flow cytometers, laminar flow cabinets, incubators, and microscopes.
Professionals involved in the research, development and production of ATMP at Banc de Sang i Teixits:
- Research and development: 6 senior researchers working full and part time, and 6 pre- and post-doctoral researchers and technicians
- Production: 3 doctors, 5 production technicians, 1 technical manager, and 1 quality process supervisor.
