You need to go to a hospital with a blood bank or to a blood donation campaign and tell the doctor that you want to register as a bone marrow donor.
At the time of donation, a blood sample will be taken to determine your bone marrow type and compatibility with sick individuals, both with leukemia and other blood diseases such as lymphomas.
However, before that, it is important that you inform yourself about the commitment you are making when you sign up for the Register. For this reason, we will ask you to:
The donor's stem cells can be obtained in two ways:
By collecting the donor's stem cells from your bloodstream through a cell separator. You will need to have a daily injection for four days.
By extracting bone marrow from the hip bones through punctures. In this case, anesthesia is required, and you will need to stay in the hospital until mid-afternoon. This method is only used in 10% of cases.
