Have you travelled to or lived in the United Kingdom? You can now be a donor!
Currently, people who have travelled to or lived in the United Kingdom can be blood donors, provided they meet the other standard blood donation criteria.
The previous criterion – which excluded some donors due to travel or prolonged stays in the UK, or due to having received transfusions in countries where cases of BSE or vCJD have been identified – is no longer in force.
This update follows the European recommendations of the EDQM (European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines & HealthCare).
When going to a blood donation centre, always inform the medical staff about your travel history during the medical interview, as temporary deferrals may apply for specific regions or periods of the year.
If you have any questions, please contact atencioaldonant(ELIMINAR)@bst.cat or call (+34) 93 557 35 66. Our medical team will assess your individual case.
