Grafts

We regret to inform you that you cannot be a blood donor in the following circumstances:

  • If you have previously received treatment with extracts derived from human pituitary glands.
  • If you have received grafts of dura mater, cornea or sclera.
  • Xenotransplants: If you have received a transplant of non-human origin. This refers to any procedure involving the transplantation, implantation or infusion of living cells, tissues, organs or bodily fluids of animal origin. If your blood has been in direct or indirect contact with living non-human animal material.

This does not include:

  1. Biological products, medicines or medical devices derived from non-living cells, tissues or organs from non-human animals.
  2. The vast majority of products used by dentists, such as bone matrix, do not contain living cells and are CE-marked. Therefore, you can donate.
  3. If you have been bitten or stung by an animal.

You can donate, but with a 4-month deferral if the graft or transplant you received is of human origin (bone, skin, tendons, etc.), whether from yourself or a donor, provided the underlying condition allows you to give blood.

For any related enquiries, you can contact atencioaldonant(ELIMINAR)@bst.cat or call (+34) 93 557 35 66. We will share your case with our medical team to address your enquiry.
