Hepatitis
There are different causes of hepatitis which may be incompatible with blood donation.
If you know which type of hepatitis you have had – A, B, C or E – please refer to the specific section below. Toxic: you can give blood if you have resumed your normal activities.
Alcoholic: We are sorry, but you cannot be a blood donor.
Chronic: If the hepatitis is chronic, we are sorry, but you cannot be a blood donor.
If your diagnosis is fatty liver disease (hepatic steatosis), you can donate despite having elevated ALT (transaminase) levels.
You can donate if you had hepatitis of an unknown cause before adolescence.
With a history of non-B and non-C hepatitis after adolescence, you can donate once 2 years have passed since your recovery.
Hepatitis A:
You can donate once 6 months (180 days) have passed since recovery.
Hepatitis B:

Hepatitis E:
You can donate once 6 months (180 days) have passed since the diagnosis. If you have had a subsequent test within this period and the result is negative, you can donate without having to wait the 6 months.
Hepatitis due to EBV (Epstein-Barr):
You can donate once 6 months (180 days) have passed since recovery.
Hepatitis due to CMV (Cytomegalovirus):
You can donate once 6 months (180 days) have passed since recovery.
