Allergy
You can give blood if you do not have any significant allergic reactions, if you have asthma and are asymptomatic, if you have dermatological symptoms but outside the puncture site, and if you have had an allergy jab and are feeling well.
If you are sensitive to iodine, latex or ethylene oxide, you must inform us at the donation centre so as not to be exposed to these products.
If you have localised eczema or any lesions in the puncture area, you cannot give blood until the area has fully recovered.
If you have been diagnosed with severe atopic dermatitis and are undergoing treatment, we regret to inform you that you cannot give blood until one year after the treatment has finished.
Food and/or drug allergies are not in themselves a reason for exclusion. If you have unfortunately required emergency medical treatment and/or had to be intubated on any occasion, we regret to inform you that you cannot be a blood donor.
The presence of itchy skin or other mild symptoms is a temporary reason for exclusion until they have disappeared.
If you are taking anti-allergy medication, you can give blood as normal.
