Cardiovascular diseases

You can be a blood donor if you have had surgery for a congenital heart defect and are well with no after-effects, if you have an asymptomatic incidental murmur and do not require surgical intervention.

If you have been diagnosed with an asymptomatic patent foramen ovale that does not require correction, you can give blood.

In other situations, it is advisable to provide a report with the cardiologist's opinion for assessment during the medical interview. We regret to inform you that there are certain conditions that would exclude you as a blood donor, such as:

  • Angina
  • Heart arrhythmia
  • Myocardial infarction
  • Heart failure
  • Arteritis
  • Arteriopathy
  • Stroke (cerebrovascular accident, CVA)
  • Left and/or right bundle branch block
  • Endocarditis
  • Recurrent arterial or venous thrombosis
  • Valvular heart disease
