You can give blood if the condition is not infectious and you are well, for example, in cases of hiatus hernia, gastritis, irritable bowel syndrome or haemorrhoids.

You may be able to give blood following a specific assessment if you have:

  • Gastric or duodenal ulcer
  • Coeliac disease
  • Iron malabsorption or blood loss
  • Diverticulosis

We are sorry to inform you that you cannot be a blood donor if you have:

  • Chronic liver disease
  • Inflammatory bowel disease
  • Chronic pancreatitis
  • Malabsorption syndromes
  • Malignant tumour
