Malaria
- If you have been diagnosed with malaria, we regret to inform you that you cannot be a blood donor.
- If you have had an unexplained fever during a visit to an endemic area, or within the 4 months following your return, you must defer donation for 3 years from the disappearance of symptoms.
- If you were born and/or have lived in a malaria-endemic area for a period of 6 months or more, you must postpone donation until 3 years have passed since your last visit to an endemic area. This is because you may be an asymptomatic carrier of the parasite due to a certain observed resistance.
- If you were born in a malaria-free area and travel to an endemic area, you can donate blood once 4 months have passed since the end of your stay in the endemic area.
Consult the malaria-endemic areas.
