Sexual relations with or without protection
Please refer to the following scenarios:
- If you have had one-off sexual contact with multiple partners of the same or opposite sex, you must defer donation for 4 months from last contact.
- If you have had sexual contact with a casual partner, you must wait 4 months from last contact.
- If you have had sexual contact with a person who may have injected drugs intravenously, you must put off giving blood for 4 months from the last sexual contact.
- If you have had sexual contact with a person diagnosed with hepatitis B or C, you must put off giving blood for 4 months from last contact. See Hepatitis.
- If you have had sexual contact with a person carrying the AIDS virus (HIV), you must wait to give blood until 1 year from last contact.
- If you have had sexual contact with a person carrying the HTLV-I or II virus, you must put off giving blood for 1 year from last contact, with a negative serological test prior to your next donation.
If you have engaged in prostitution, we regret to inform you that you cannot be a blood donor. We respect personal situations and make decisions to protect recipients from contracting sexually transmitted diseases through blood transfusion.
